Bukit Gantang: Akhirnya BN Mengaku Sudah Kalah

IT seems that the 13,000-odd Chinese voters in Bukit Gantang, Perak, are a lost cause for the
Barisan Nasional.

In Kuala Sepetang, the laidback fishing town formerly known as Port Weld, one can hardly see BN
flags. It is where 80 per cent of Bukit Gantang’s Chinese voters are, and attempts to win them over have almost come to a standstill. “In Kuala Sepetang, where the majority of the 13,000-odd Chinese
electorate stay, they have outrightly said they will vote for Pas candidate Datuk Seri Muhammad Nizar Jamaluddin and this has stopped us from further attempting to woo them,” a BN campaigner said.

Chinese voters, he said, refer to Nizar as “Ah Kor” or brother. Nizar, the Chinese voters said, had been sympathetic to the community’s needs during the 11 months he had held the Menteri Besar post.

“With such a relationship, how to break and convince the Chinese voters to vote for BN?” said the
campaigner, who has been assigned to tackle Chinese voters in Bukit Gantang.

In Simpang, some 2km away from the rustic town of Taiping, DAP campaigners conduct daily meetings with Chinese voters, from 9am to noon.

You don’t get to see BN campaigners anywhere — a further indication that they have thrown in the proverbial towel.

“The voters don’t care about Hindraf, the suspension of Harakah and Suara Keadilan or the return
of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to Umno. They are just sticking to local issues, and the Chinese voters seem to have made up their minds on who they want to vote for,” he said.

That is not the only thorn in BN’s side.

There are claims that supporters of Bukit Gantang Umno division’s deputy head, Kamarulail Sulaiman, are not fully committed to the cause as a protest against the fielding of 47-year old Ismail Safuan, who had lost the election for the division’s head post in October last year, as the BN candidate.

A local Umno member claimed that even the party branches do not fly the BN flags.

“Bukit Gantang Gerakan had even introduced Kamarulail to the Chinese electorate weeks before Ismail was announced as the candidate.

“When Ismail was named as the candidate, the division’s members were split into three — backing either division head Datuk Rosli Hussin, Kamarulail or Ismail.”

pemerintahan keluarga seseorang sahaja.. Fikir-fikirkan lah saudara..
